Abstract

Biography

Mr Stephen Marshall is a director and a senior environmental scientist at Bio2Lab, with 20 years experience working in the environmental water and catchment management industry. He was a senior research associate at the University of Melbourne, leading research projects and contributing to over 30 published articles, technical reports, and government discussion papers. In 2017 Stephen co-founded Bio2Lab to bring more cost-effective environmental monitoring approaches to the water industry, and is active in environmental education and outreach programs in schools and the community. He is a Victorian ambassador for the Stormwater Shepherds.

Biography

Dr David Sharley is a Senior Environmental Scientist and former Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, with over 20 years’ experience in water pollution monitoring, sediment quality assessment, and stormwater source tracking. As founder of Bio2Lab, he works with government and industry to deliver real-time, field-ready solutions for detecting and managing pollution events. David’s expertise bridges science, regulation, and innovation, with a strong record in environmental risk assessment, technical reporting, and stakeholder engagement. He has authored over 85 technical reports and 24 peer-reviewed publications. Passionate about applying science to real-world problems, David’s work continues to shape policy, guide operational response, and safeguard ecosystem and public health.
