Volunteering Roles
We offer a range of volunteer opportunities with varying levels of commitment. Whether you can spare an hour or two or are keen to play a more hands-on role across the conference, there’s something for everyone.
Low-Commitment Volunteer Roles
Venue Setup (Furniture Moving)
When: Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning (depending on requirements)
What: Help set up tables and chairs to prepare the venue for the conference. This role involves physical work and is ideal for volunteers who are happy to lend a hand with manual setup tasks.
Bag Packing
When: Monday
Time commitment: 1–2 hours
What: Assist with event preparation by packing attendee bags with sponsorship materials so they’re ready for distribution.
Ticket Scanning
When: Wednesday and/or Thursday (various times)
What: Support the event team by scanning attendee badges for lunches and dinners to ensure access is limited to registered participants. This role is a great opportunity to meet and network with attendees. Volunteers will be provided with details on the scanning app and can indicate a preference for lunch or dinner sessions.
High-Commitment Volunteer Roles
Papers Room Manager
When: All day Wednesday and Thursday
What: Assist with coordinating the papers room, act as a point of contact for presenters and session chairs, help facilitate Q&A where needed, and ensure all materials (including judging sheets) are collected and returned to WIOA staff at the end of each day.
Papers Room Session Chair
When: Half day on Wednesday or Thursday
What: Introduce speakers (bios provided) and facilitate Q&A sessions during paper presentations.
Papers Room Judge
When: Half or full day on Wednesday and/or Thursday (depending on session requirements)
What: Attend paper presentations, assess eligible entries using provided judging criteria, and complete scoring sheets.
Poster Manager
When: Thursday lunchtime
What: Oversee poster presentation sessions, coordinate judges, and be available to answer questions from poster presenters.
Poster Judge
When: Thursday lunchtime
What: Assess poster presentations using provided judging criteria. Each presentation runs for approximately five minutes.
Taste Test Judge
When: Wednesday morning tea and Wednesday lunch
What: Sample and rate water from competing utilities to help determine the best-tasting tap water in the state.
