Details
Discover how the forthcoming 10-Year Water Sector Workforce Roadmap will help address Australia’s water workforce challenges through evidence-based, industry-led action. Developed by BuildSkills Australia, the national Jobs and Skills Council for construction, property and water, the Roadmap draws on extensive data analysis, research and nationwide consultation. This session will outline the project’s key findings and explore the Blueprint for a Competent and Adaptable Water Operations Workforce. Initially focused on drinking water operations, the Blueprint proposes stronger national training arrangements, clearer career pathways and greater assurance that essential water systems are operated safely, competently and consistently for all communities across Australia.

Dave Cameron has spent over 17 years in water and related industries, including over 13 years with the Queensland Water Directorate. He has represented the industry on national skills advisory bodies and chaired both the Water Industry Skills Taskforce and Operator Certification Taskforce. He was CEO of Irrigation Australia, the national peak for the irrigation industry and main RTO.
He commenced with BuildSkills January 2026 and has been extensively involved with the research and industry consultation for the Water Sector 10 Year Workforce Roadmap project since then. Dave is passionate about developing careers and skilling opportunities for the water sector.
