For more than two decades, the water industry has largely transferred PFAS between water, treatment media, sludges, biosolids and landfills. But removal is not destruction; it often creates another contaminated waste stream requiring costly transport, treatment and disposal. This provocative session asks whether the greatest barrier to permanent PFAS destruction is not technology, but waste volume. With destruction costing substantially more than licensed containment, concentrating PFAS into less than one-quarter of the original volume could transform the economics. Domenic’s focus is on translating scientific innovation into commercially viable systems that solve real operational problems. At NTS, he leads the commercialisation of Magnetic Particle Extraction technology, working with water utilities, mining companies, manufacturers, research institutions and government stakeholders across Australia and internationally.
Domenic brings a practical, commercially focused perspective to the challenge of PFAS management, particularly the need to connect removal, concentration and final destruction into one economically viable treatment pathway.
